Privacy Policy
Gitodds has no accounts, sets no cookies, and does not track you across the web. Here is exactly what it does collect, and why.
Last updated: 16 October 2026
The short version
- · Gitodds is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with the Git project, Software Freedom Conservancy, or GitHub, Inc.
- · No signup, no account, no password, no email required.
- · No cookies.
- · No advertising, no cross-site tracking, no data sold. Ever.
- · Your IP address is used only for daily limits, stored as a scrambled code rather than the address itself, and deleted automatically within 24 hours.
Who we are
Gitodds ("we", "the site") is a GitHub repository analyzer that reads public GitHub repositories and generates AI summaries of public open-source projects. It is available at www.gitodds.com.
Independence
Gitodds is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Git project, Software Freedom Conservancy, GitHub, Inc., OpenAI, or any repository owner featured on the site. "Git" and "GitHub" are trademarks of their respective owners, used here only to describe what the site does.
What we do not collect
We do not collect names, email addresses or passwords, because there are no accounts. No cookies, no advertising or marketing trackers, no fingerprinting and no payment information. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
What we collect
1. A code made from your IP address, for daily limits
When you request an analysis, look up a repository or send feedback, the request counts toward daily limits: at most 5 new analyses per visitor, 20 feedback messages, and a ceiling on all requests set far above what a person uses. To count, we store a scrambled code made from your IP address, never the address itself. It exists only to stop automated abuse, and it is never linked to anything else.
2. Feedback you choose to send
If you use the Feedback button under an analysis, we keep your answer, the parts you marked and your note, and it is emailed to us. Nothing about you is attached to it. Please keep personal details out of the note.
Analysis and OpenAI
When you request an analysis, we read the repository's public files on GitHub and send them to OpenAI to write it. Nothing about you goes to OpenAI: only public repository content.
We take part in OpenAI's data-sharing programme, so the public repository content we send and the analyses returned may be used by OpenAI to improve its models. That content is already public on GitHub and never includes anything about you.
Analyses are saved and shown to later visitors, and redone from time to time. An analysis is about the repository, not about whoever asked for it.
How long we keep things
- The IP code for daily limits: 24 hours after your first request, then deleted automatically.
- Feedback: while it helps us improve the analyses
Public GitHub data on this site
Gitodds displays information about public repositories and their authors (usernames, avatars, descriptions, star counts and similar) sourced from GitHub's public API. We do not create this data and we publish nothing GitHub does not already make public.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA) you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of your personal data.
In practice there is very little for us to act on: we hold no accounts, and the only personal data we store is a scrambled code made from your IP address, deleted within 24 hours, plus anything you write in a feedback note. We cannot turn that code back into an address or link it to a person, so we generally cannot tell which record is yours. If you have a specific concern, contact us and we will do what we can.
